Jim resides in Christchurch NZ, and has been a member of the band since 2011 when the band travelled to Crete. Jim was taught the bagpipes by the legendary John Allen MaGee who, at the time, was Pipe Major of the City of Invercargill Caledonian Pipe Band.  Jim joined that band in 1953 and played in it continuously until 1985.  After a 10-year break, he returned as pipe major for two years (1994-1996).

Jim has also been a staunch member of the Waimatuku Pipe Band.  He was Pipe Major from 1986 to 1994.  During those years, it was always placed 2nd or 3rd in its grade at the National Championships.

In addition to being a successful pipe major, Jim played in A-grade solo competitions for many years. Jim joined the Pipes and Drums of Christchurch City in 2011 when it toured Crete to participate in events marking the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Crete during the Second World War.  His last tour with the band was the Edinburgh Tattoo in 2019.

Tours with the band: 2019 Sydney, 2019 Edinburgh, 2011 Crete
