Graeme Finlayson
Piper
Graeme resides in Dipton NZ, and has been a member of the band since 2017 when the band travelled to Virginia. Graeme comes from a well-established farming family at Dipton, in Southland. He has been a man-of-the-land all his life. Graeme learned to play the bagpipe under the tutelage of Johnny Wilson when he was just 11 years old. Three years later, he joined the Winton and Districts Pipe Band and was an active member for over 20 years. He joined the Waimatuku Highland Pipe Band in about 2000 and remains a staunch member.
Graeme joined the Pipes and Drums of Christchurch City in 2016 and considers his overseas trips with the band to be the highlight of his piping career. Graeme’s wife, Alini is a tenor drummer, and their son, Duncan, is himself an accomplished piper. Both have also travelled with the band in past years.
